Meet your Dosha, but why use Ayurveda medicine with Yoga?
Ayurveda guides us to seek practices that are specific to soothe and balance our personal constitution. Ayurveda is very certain that each individual is completely different and what goes for one person will not necessarily work well for another.
Believe it or not, Ayurveda sees that there are certain practices of Yoga and meditation that are more balancing for each Dosha. Since Yoga is normally part of the recommendations and treatment after a consultation from an Ayurvedic therapist..it shows that Yoga is personal medicine.

Did you know that there are some Asana’s that are best to cool a hot Pitta type down, and other practices that help to heat and energise the heavy slower Kapha types up!

Another example that may be more familiar for those not yet using Yoga regularly: a simple daily habit that most of us in the western world are very familiar with, is that we are told by medical science that we should all be drinking about 2 litres of water per day.
Ayurveda has a little problem with this. Ayurveda says that not everyone should drink 2 litres of water every day.
In fact, Ayurveda understands that some body types should actually NOT drink 2 litres of water every day because it will help them gain weight – these body types already have enough water in their system. Most of all this body type should rarely, if ever, drink water that is ice cold, because this will doubly increase their imbalances.

Ayurveda knows that we should drink when we are thirsty. Not to delay drinking at this time. But to drink as needed, for as much or as little as your body requires. Some need more water, others need less. Its simple.
Ayurveda is the use of knowledge to live intelligently. Yoga is a personal and specific treatment to re-balance the physical and subtle body.
You only need to understand the very basic rules to begin to offer the Ayurvedic daily medicine of healing to your life.
Its all about the five elements of this life. And our Dosha’s are the biological humours of the human body.
Each of us similar in our human-nes. At the same time and thankfully, we are also extremely different, as we look deeper into each personal constitution or dosha.
A dosha is a blend of the five natural elements of most basic parts of life itself;
Space, Ether, Fire, Water, Earth.
It is a specific mix that creates your unique body and mind type.
Each blend or Dosha is made of two of these Five great elements. The first of each being the most dominant.
VATA DOSHA < > Dry, cold, light, mobile, irregular, dispersing, erratic
PITTA DOSHA < > Hot, flowing/liquid, light, spreading, oily/wet, sharp/penetrating
KAPHA DOSHA < > Wet/oily, cold, heavy, static, soft, gelatinous
Each Dosha is the controller, or the manager, CEO, of certain systems of the body.
Dosha’s help us to identify what to do when there is is an imbalance, by what is dominant at any time.
Ayurveda can help us live the dream of finding that elusive balance that many of us seek.
The basic Ayurvedic rule of Like increases Like, and Opposites Reduce gives us a good direction to take in our diet, lifestyle. This rule can help you determine what and how you exercise and how you attend to your Yoga and breathing practices.
